The Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance, JPIAMR, is an international collaborative platform that coordinates national funding and supports collaborative action for filling knowledge gaps on antimicrobial resistance with a One Health perspective.
In April 2016, JPIAMR launched a rapid action call for leading scientists and experts to establish Working Groups to enhance resource alignment and maximise existing and future research efforts to combat AMR. The AACTING network is one of these Working Groups funded by JPI AMR.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) started the European Surveillance of Veterinary Antimicrobial Consumption (ESVAC) project in April 2010, following a request from the European Commission to develop a harmonised approach for the collection and reporting of data on the use of antimicrobial agents in animals from EU and European Economic Area (EEA) Member States.
ESVAC collects information on how antimicrobial medicines are used in animals across the European Union (EU). This type of information is essential to identify possible risk factors that could lead to the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance in animals.
EMA also works closely with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) to analyse the potential relationship between the consumption of antimicrobials by humans and animals and the occurance of antimicrobial resistance.
